Clarifying Cloud Part 4: That's a Wrap
Today's post is a summary level recap of the prior 3 posts.
At this point I've clarified Cloud with a set of definitions that can help anyone classify a broad arrray of solutions they might find on the market. I expect that there are or will be many "what about this? or that?" questions, just like there are when I discuss this in person. Keep in mind the ideas I've put forth are not about products, functionality, or trends in the nightly news. They are intentionally broad and will provide a framework to classify any solution, so that you can determine if you are on the road to leveraging the benefits of Cloud or not.
In the future I will post examples, scenarios, and occasionally opinions on enterprise & consumer solutions where needed for familiarity or illustration. Here's the Recap...
Characteristics: Multi-Tenant, Scalable, Self-Provisionable, Programmable, On-Demand
Deployment Methods: Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud
Delivery Models: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Resource as a Service (RaaS).
Enjoy your week in the Cloud!
